National Geographic Ant Farm

National Geographic Ant FarmSomething about me that you may think slightly strange is that I LOVE ants. From those annoying little sugar ants to the more dangerous ants that inhabit rain forests around the world (although I prefer those pesky little sugar ants), I find them all absolutely fascinating. Apparently I’m not the only one to find these little critters so fascinating either because this mega ant farm put together by National Geographic (but made from that same blue gel developed by NASA and used in the “sold for your kids amusement” ant farms in stores) seems to have attracted quite a bit of attention. The ants inside this habitat can life for up to six months, feeding on the edible blue gel and creating a network of under-gel tunnels that the average passerby can see. While the giant ant farm does leave me in awe of these tiny fascinating creatures that possess super…ant strength it also leaves me feeling pretty bad for them, hell I’d be thoroughly miserable just hanging around with people staring at me all day – but for six months straight? I’d be just about ready to burrow out of the glass with my tiny ant mandibles and devour alive the next human with the gaul to look me in my beady little eyes.
