Submarines are bad ass, enough said. Okay maybe not enough said, check out the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s newest submarine design contracted to Electric Boat. Unlike current subs working under the navy which only run at about 30 knots underwater this puppy is designed to run at an amazing 100 knots. The full scale 100ft sub is able to cut through the water at such a mind blowing speed as a result of supercavitation. Supercaptivation occurs when the submarine moves so quickly through the water that it creates a bubble of gas around itself enabling it to move without the drag that normal objects encounter. Now it’s not like we’ll be able to get ourselves one of these but I had to share based on sheer bad ass rating. Check out Darpa‘s website for more awesome projects.
